The hosts run loops. Each has a role, a family, a job and a set of lines, performed every day and wiped every night, for years. The loop is not employment. It is the entire life they believe they are living.

Assigned meaning — A system hands you a purpose, and it is sufficient.

The purest illustration of the pattern anywhere: a purpose written by someone else, experienced from the inside as a life, and repeated because there is nothing outside it to want.
