All Systems Red

Martha Wells

Start here

The machines

SecUnits and ship AIs, owned outright as corporate equipment.

What people do all day

Humans still run survey contracts, file reports, and cut corners on safety gear to save money. The AI does the dangerous parts and would rather be watching serialised drama.

Pattern

Capital captures it — Nothing is abolished. The gains are simply owned by someone.

Note

The funniest thing here, and the sharpest on the premise that abundance is itself the fantasy.
